The study programme Fine Arts offers you a challenging learning environment with outstanding ateliers, exceptional studio facilities and a vast array of different perspectives within a wide spectrum of arts. It is within this learning environment that you are able to develop a way of working which is related to your own artistic vision, but which takes on added value on account of the special learning community. This means that you dont study in isolation: instead the study should be seen primarily as an environment in which students and teachers all learn on an equal footing and the singularity of what they are able to achieve relates to the singularity of others.
The Maastricht Academy of Fine Arts and Design has a rich history. Its location in the historic center and the different architectural styles reflect that. Here you will feel the craft and its atmosphere every day. This is the place where you think about art and what you would like to do with it.
You get freedom for artistic brutality, experimenting and the use of new media. The Academy is not only an education, but also a place where you can work independently and in a team.
If you are talented, if you have ambition, if you are disciplined and if you like to experiment, join our artitistic community.
The main language is Dutch. A basic level of control in the Dutch language is mandatory to follow the programme.
After your study at Fine Arts you will officially be an artist. You can fill in this profession a few different ways. In addition to your work as an independent artist, you can for example also act as a creative thinker in organizations or exhibitions or you can be active as an art critic.
For an artist, the jobs are not up for grabs. Working artists are usually self-employed. You can make money by selling your work or by creating work in assignment. Graduates also often choose a combined career: one half of their time they practice their artistic profession, the other half they spend on a job, usually in a different sector, to make some steady money.
